Compared to the previous year, we have seen a significant drop in production, especially in winter rape and winter rye, of more than 35%.
In winter rape and rye, we have achieved the lowest yields per hectare in 10 years.
Several factors have contributed to the lower yields: the bad weather in April, the presence of pests and voles, but also damage to crops caused by overpopulated hoofed animals. The yields achieved this year for cereals are around the five-year average.
The evolution of realised prices of commodities this year is also not very favourable for farmers. Compared to the previous year, we have seen the prices drop by 10–15%. Currently, the price of rape hovers around 450 euros per tonne, wheat of bread-making quality is priced at 180 euros per tonne, durum wheat at 280 euros and barley for malting at around 185 euros per tonne.
Production shortfalls, lower quality, and unfavourable price evolution for individual commodities will not bring positive economic results for farmers this year.
